Basic Muesli Recipe

Serves: 4-6
Prep Time: 8 mins

This basic Muesli recipe is a fantastic start to your day and involves only 6 ingredients. It is incredibly nutrient dense, full of fibre, protein, healthy fats, carbohydrates, and tastes so delicious. The barley flakes and oats both release energy slowly helping to maintain steady blood sugar levels, while the high fibre content fills you up and promotes healthy digestion. The almonds and hazelnuts are rich in antioxidants which support the brain, cardiovascular and repertory systems, as well as keeping the skin and hair healthy.

This recipe also provides an excellent base for making your own bespoke muesli blend. We all like maybe a few more nuts, or less oats, or maybe you would prefer to leave out the raisins and add goji berries or dates instead. Hopefully this recipe will give you the confidence to start making your own muesli, because it really is so simple and then you’ll be able to get it just the way you like it!

  1. To make the muesli combine all of the above ingredients together in a large airtight container, and then give it a good shake to mix everything together. This can be stored for around a month.
  2. When you’re ready to serve top with your choice of milk (I use almond milk) and fresh fruit (i tend to use bananas as they are cheap and last well). Enjoy!

  • 2 cups oats (make sure these are 100% gluten free rolled oats, instead of quick oats and that they don’t have anything added to them)
  •  1 cup barley flakes
  •  1/4 cup almonds, crushed
  •  1/4 cup hazelnuts, crushed
  •  1/4 cup pumpkin seeds
  •  1/2 cup raisins
