Can you eat an alphabet in a month? (26 different types of fruit and veg🍎🥑🥒🌽.) Here’s why it will help your stress.⁠ ⁠

💩Current research shows that 20% of people in the UK will suffer from IBS.

💩The largest nerve in the body is called the vagus nerve and it connects the brain and the gut. The relationship between the two has been termed the ‘gut brain axis’. ⁠

💩The ‘gut brain axis’ is the reason why stress from our brain has a negative effect on our gut. I’m sure many of you are familiar with the feeling of being nervous and then a sudden urge to go to the toilet.⁠

💩But the connection also goes the other way↔️. So the gut can affect the brain, and the gut microbiome mediates it. The microbiome consists of trillions of microbes 🦠that live inside us. When they get fed food they make short chain fatty acids which are compounds that can send signals via the vagus nerve to the brain. So we can think of food as a way of sending signals to the brain. The right foods will send calming signals to your brain, whereas the wrong foods will send stress signals to your brain.⁠ ⁠

💩So if we take out highly processed junk foods that the microbes don’t like, and add in the foods they do like such as whole foods, particularly the colourful fruit and veg 🍎🥑🥒🌽the microbiome will be happier and we will have a happier brain.⁠

💩The microbes also love diversity so try to make your diet as diverse as possible. ⁠ ⁠
